Damage is Done (The Violation of Thémis) è stato creato in risposta a questi tempi di guerra, di migrazione forzata, instabilità ambientale e politica. La rabbia non rilasciata, il dolore senza ricompensa e l’identità non categorizzata in identità post-crisi si riverbera attraverso le generazioni.

Questa violazione di thémis, cioè di “ciò che è giusto”, innesca una reazione fisica e psicologica che intrappola il ferito in una distorsione temporale senza futuro. Il nostro regalo è un inferno. I am honored to announce that my video Damage is Done (The Violation of Thémis) will be showcased by ProArts and the Dream Farm Commons at their Second Saturday 15th Street Outdoor Screening. Videos will be projected large scale across the wall of Dream Farm Commons, 349 15th Street, Oakland, CA on Saturday, June 8th from 8-10pm. Damage is Done (The Violation of Thémis) will be screened around 8:40 pm.

The Dream Farm Commons curators write: “This month our prompt was “In Memory of…” We have selected videos that investigate memorial from a variety of angles, including as homage to individual fallen heroes, as resistance to colonialism and ecological disruption.”

Damage is Done (The Violation of Thémis) was created in response to these times of war, forced migration, environmental and political instability. My collaborator, Rob Fatal and I explore the impact of relentless multiple loss and the futile, exhausting effort to recover without the solace of community. Our touchpoint is the wreckage inflicted on the queer and ”of color” communities by the HIV/AID epidemic. It is “In Memory of….” those who did not survive, and those who remain stranded in the trauma. We offer neither resolution nor relief.

But our experience is not unique. During times of war or plague, the terror of insistent, unpredictable death lives among us. There is no pause for recovery; only the effort to clean up the mess. We come to anticipate loss upon loss. Hope is hidden away, so it will not die. The unreleased rage, disenfranchised grief, and unsorted identity of post-crisis existence reverberate across generations.

To encounter such a deluge of death, evil, and horror makes one forever different. To become aware that the custodians of order are flawed and negligent, if not malevolent, disrupts our sense of stability. The loss of an assumptive world contributes to an identity disruption, which correspondingly impacts how/if individuals reestablish a meaningful life. This violation of thémis, of “what’s right,” triggers a physical and psychological reaction trapping the injured in a futureless time warp. Our present is hell. And we cannot get back to where we once belonged.

Dream Farm Commons is a site with a shared terrain of radical imagination, art-making, social change and creative production. They have created the Second Saturday Video Showing in collaboration with ProArts Commons and their 15th Street neighbors.”
